Elephant
The elephants are in their heaven. We want to fly like angels. Tiny things are quick to leave us. We want to fly like angels.
Say good night.
Leaving us to our own hell.
Pointing fingers after rifles.
Point is lost in rifle shells.
The point is lost on them.
Alcohol will see you through this.
Waits for you to wash your hands.
Shaking for the things gone skyward.
Up above the troubled lands.
But you've got it on your hands.
We float like rocks in water.
I know these birds are angels.
We meet like oil and water.
Say good night.
The night is over.
Say goodbye.
Goodbye forever.
Who could know we needed them?
The wife and kids, the aspirations.
Gone away to Auntie M's.
You forgot to water them.
Rainy days are now upon us.
We are wet with nothing saved.
Rainy days are here forever.
Here forever and a day.
What a day it's been.
We float like rocks in water.
I know these birds are angels.
We meet like oil and water.
Say good night.
The night is over.
Say goodbye.
Goodbye.
The night is over.
Say goodbye.
Goodbye forever.
Note: Unreleased; performed live in 1996. The lyrics were supplied by Adam straight out of Blake's notebook; a few words have been emended to reflect what Blake actually sings in the one recording of the song that is known to exist (a live version from 18 May 1996 - the band's second last show). Incidentally, the song probably didn't have a proper name, as Blake introduces it in that performance by saying, "This song is called...uh, uh...Elephant, for lack of a better title."
