Etc. 2xLP/CD,
Jawbreaker/Samiam split 7", Demo #1
I could walk a million miles.
Old truths have taken shape.
Suffer sacrifice in vain.
Old truths have taken shape.
(breakdown rant by Chris:)
You've made the same mistake again.
Old truths have taken shape.
Suffer freezing rain and failure.
It's familiar.
This time you have gone too far.
Stole my memories and teardrops.
Now it all stops.
They form themselves inside your landscape.
And now I'm a million miles from home.
I don't know.
Still, I can see so clearly.
I don't care.
Seems like endless pain inside me.
It's colliding.
Still, you've got no choice at all.
Make a choice before your world stops.
Before your smile drops.
They form themselves inside your landscape.
And now I'm a million miles from home.
I don't know.
Still, I can see so clearly.
I don't care.
... I'm sorry if I said something that you don't like anymore.
I don't know. I'm sorry if I say I don't know if I'm sorry if
I'm not really sorry but I don't know anything at all.
It's not sure what I know or what I care about or what there is
to care about at all, you know what I'm talking about?
Do you know what I mean? Do you hear what I'm saying?
Did you think I'd really buy it?
You shouldn't try it.
There's no one here in your defense.
They know you lie and don't make sense.
Are you getting tense?
They form themselves inside your landscape.
And now I'm a million miles from home.
I don't know.
Still, I can see so clearly.
I don't care.
Notes:
Chris sings backing vocals in this song; they're more prominent in the original mix (Demo #1) than in the remix (Jawbreaker/Samiam split 7" and Etc. 2xLP/CD).
Chris probably also wrote some of the lyrics.
As for the strange, slowed-down spoken voice sample that appears in the middle and end of the song, that's Blake. He recorded his voice inside the van on the way to the studio to record the song, and he's talking about shaving before committing suicide. If you listen carefully in the middle of the song, Blake can be heard saying things like "white porcelain filled with warm water"; "soap up"; "take the straight razor, make sure there's no rusty spots" - all in regards to shaving. At the end of the song, he says, "cinch along the rope until it is snug on the neck," which refers to the act of suicide after shaving. The recording was slowed down to make it sound eerie and slightly psychotic.
